Assignment 2:

Grayscale

For this project you will be using the following supplies:

Pencils, Gel Rollers, Black and White Paints, Brushes, Bristol Board, Ruler, Triangle

1. Complete a grayscale ranging from white to black. Separate each color into its own section in 1.5" x 1.5" squares.

Arrange on the page in a way demonstrating knowledge of the linear quality of value.

2. In your sketchbook, create ten ½ page drawings. Each drawing will have all four corners outlined.

Lightly draw the two diagonals finding the center of the page. Draw a light vertical line completely through the center. Draw a light horizontal line through the center.

Next, in each of the four boxes you have just created, use two lines of varying width, darkness, emotion, and angles to connect the corners within each box.

These lines can be made diagonally or wandering, vertically or horizontally.

3. Pick your favorite drawing and enlarge it to a full page in your sketchbook. In the spaces between lines, pick a shade from your grayscale and using pencil, smoothly shade it in.

The result will be your final preparatory drawing for a larger design.

4. Enlarge your drawing to 12" x 15" on your Bristol board. Lightly redraw your chosen composition.

Outline using your ruler, triangle, and gel rollers. Mix your paints and carefully paint in each section, matching both your grayscale and your final test drawing.
