Retrospective II:

Life In Technicolor

Retrospective II was the installation I exhibitted for the MFA Group Thesis Exhibition at the Staller Center for the Arts at SUNY Stony Brook. The piece was an homage to the scenes I had been recreating spatially. Instead of creating another "period" piece, I chose to insert my portrait into the images of the living rooms from 1960's Better Homes and Gardens. I then created a space to exhibit them within the gallery. The space I created worked as if it was an enlarged movie reel or film strip. Each of the eight drawings was connected by placement, not chronology. They were matted on top and bottom with film strip type mats, i.e., holes cut in them. I constructed all the walls separately and my installation crew assembled the piece on location. The lighting, ceiling, floor, and walls were all constructed specifically for this installation. The drawings themselves were created using only the blue shades of Crayola Colored Pencils, except for the figure which was drawn with my signature red checking pencils.
