Subway Sketches

My commute to workwas slightly more than one hour on the subway. I made two transfers and ended up spending plenty of time waiting. Realizing I could be more productive during this time, I began sketching while on the trains and platforms. The images were sometimes studies of larger pieces I was working on and sometimes just visual narratives without a story. After the first two, I devised a padding system for my bag and sketchbook which negated the vibrations of the train. With this invention, I was then able to draw naturally, as if I were sitting at a table.

Each of the drawings is 8.5" x 10.5" on paper, using only Generic Paper-Mate Medium Point Black pens.

Morning Commute: Jamaica/Van Wyck Station - E Train to Queens Plaza. Transfer to the R Train to 59th Street Station. Transfer to the 4 Uptown to149th Street.
